      <image:title>Visual Blog - I'm in a museum!!!!!</image:title>
<image:caption>My piece "Siena Market" was chosen to hang in a show at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, VA! I cant tell you all how excited I was to get that email. The show opening was a bit ago and I got to meet the other artists from around the Commonwealth who were also selected. It’s truly such a crazy feeling. Funny moment...this painting is usually hanging in my hallway just to keep it from laying flat and it takes up so much room since its a biggun...until I saw it hanging on that huuuuuge museum wall. 2 feet by 3 feet is alot different in a museum. Anyway, itll be there until January in case anyone is in the area!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - YET ANOTHER GINORMOUS MURAL!</image:title>
<image:caption>That pretty much sums it up really. I did a really really big mural. I actually cut and made the frames to stretch the canvas on which was a huge challenge for someone like me who is right angle challenged. But I somehow managed to make these 4 canvases coming in at a whopping 4(ish) feet wide by almost 6 feet tall. Took a couple months and were finally delivered and hung in september.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I took my show on the road yet again. To beautiful Portugal. As always, sooooo much to draw and never enough time. I didnt take a class this time though. Just wandered about and drew on my own. Amazing food. Beautiful architecture. Its gets harder and harder to come back.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Ginormous Mural!</image:title>
<image:caption>Whew thats a biggun! I was commissioned to do a very large mural at an elementary school library in Florida. I absolutely love doing murals but also find them insanely challenging. It definitely makes me appreciate the artists out there who do these on massive scales for a living.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - It's been so long!</image:title>
<image:caption>Ugh Im the worst, amirite?! So much to catch up on dear followers. So this was a photo of an art trip to Spain and France…in September. I hang my head in shame almost 7 months later. Times just been crazy fast and slow these past few years, right? Anyway, enough excuses. I went to Barcelona to begin with then caught the train to Toulouse, France to meet up with my favorite art group. A new city in a new country. As always, so many amazing things to draw and paint. We then ventured out to the countryside (stayed in a castle, NBD) It was a wonderful adventure and I cant wait to go back someday. I also have 3 shows lined up this year and a new mural coming soon. So much to do! Stay tuned…</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Finally a show!</image:title>
<image:caption>Whew…things have been crazy, amirite?! Finally had an outdoor show though and it was amazing. Art on the Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia is always a great show. If you’re ever in the area when its going on, I cant recommend it enough. So many talented artists and it goes for blocks!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Insert bad mom joke here, right? Seriously though…I stopped by the gallery to check out the show and walked up to this. So they put my painting on a ginormous sign out front. Its really cool to see your work so big on the side of a building.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Growing up, I always wanted to be a Disney animator. Unfortunately, computers took over and, well, I really, really hate computers. But it doesn’t mean I gave up on all things Disney. I still love being inspired by both their characters and architecture. I’ve been doing a series of Disney inspired paintings like this one of some sculptures outside of the Haunted Mansion.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Its been awhile</image:title>
<image:caption>Things have been a little crazy, am I right? All this time at home and yet its still so hard to get motivated sometimes. I finally got out of my slump and thought I’d update the site and share what I’ve been up to. This is a ginormous fiberglass heron that is part of an instillation in Chesapeake, Virginia. A bunch of these were given to various artists to paint how they saw fit. I decided to paint mine in honor of 2 firefighters that were killed in the line of duty in Chesapeake in 1996. The unveiling was supposed to happen around May but hopefully it’ll happen this fall.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Visiting the Pacific Northwest!</image:title>
<image:caption>So I was accepted to a residency about an hour and half southwest of Seattle, Washington! I spent 2 weeks out there drawing, painting, and seeing cool stuff! I’ve never been out there, so it was quite the adventure. The mountains are massive and they have sea lions! The residency was through a great group called Hypatia-in-the-Woods. They have an amazing cabin set up for all types of artists to come and create. I went to work on my watercolors mainly. I feel I have been struggling with them a lot lately. Mainly my value and color intensity. So it was nice to focus on these and I feel like I made a little progress. Hop over to my watercolor section and see the small mushroom I painted!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Just finished up Artsfest in Solomons Island, MD this weekend and it was amazing! Every time I do something art related at this place, it always turns out great. The weather was perfect, large crowds, and lots of art! Its really wonderful to see so many people coming to one place to see so much art. My next festival will be on October 5th in Alexandria, VA. Art on the Avenue is also another really good show so stay tuned!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Urban Sketchers Chicago Seminar!</image:title>
<image:caption>Went out to Chicago for 6 days to join up with a bunch of awesome people to doodle! If you haven’t heard, the Chicago chapter of Urban Sketchers has a yearly seminar and it is freaking awesome! The classes and teachers were amazing. The set up, logistics and everything was taken care of perfectly. These people know how to do it right! Despite the weird weather of Chicago, I had a great time and hope to do it again!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Teaching linoleum cut printmaking</image:title>
<image:caption>Recently had the pleasure (and challenge) of teaching linoleum cut printmaking to an art group in Norfolk, VA. One thing I can definitely say is that teaching itself is an artform. Much respect for all the really good teachers out there! I find I know what I want to say but the train derails and all the sudden I’m all over the place. Something I need to work on because I did have a great time showing these people some techniques. Linoleum cut printmaking isn’t my main medium of choice, but every once in a while its super fun to break out and give it a try.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Chestertown, Maryland Plein Air</image:title>
<image:caption>So this happened! I was part of the Chestertown, Maryland Paint the Town Plein air event put on by the local group called RiverArts. And they know how to do a show right! It was nice to meet a lot of really great artists. The event was amazing and the amount of people who showed up to see the final show was wonderful! It was packed! It really does the heart good to see so many people coming out to just enjoy art. And then to top off a great week, I received 3rd place in the “Quick Draw” on Sunday. Overall, I would say a successful weekend.</image:caption>

<image:title>Visual Blog - Finishing up at Annmarie Garden</image:title>
<image:caption>A few weeks ago I finished up my 2 week stint as an Artist in Action at Annmarie Garden and I’m still processing how amazing the whole experience was. I can’t express how wonderful it is to simply paint. To have the privilege to wake up and paint every day is wonderful. And the amount of paintings I got done? I was crazy productive! I worked in oil for the whole 2 weeks, so head over to my oils section and see all the new visual goodies!</image:caption>

<image:caption>So the Chesapeake Bay Art Association has a spring show yearly and I got 3 pieces in! The top piece is a scene from Richmond, VA and the bottom 2 are street scenes from Spain. As you can tell, I’m on a building kick at the moment. This show runs until April 30 in Virginia Beach, VA and it has a lot of amazing work by a lot of really cool people.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I was accepted to an artist residency at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomons Island, MD. I’ll be there from February 3rd to the 15th. As of today, I’m in day 7 and loving it. I get to show up and paint everyday, all day. Every artists dream, right?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - The Brooklyn Sketchbook Project!</image:title>
<image:caption>So I finally got around to getting a sketchbook from the Sketchbook Project in Brooklyn, NY. There is an entire library filled with these small sketchbooks from artists around the world that you can visit and peruse. I have yet to make it up to the physical library myself, but I hope to someday. I can’t even imagine the amazing variety that is stored there! Anyway, so I sent away for mine and was determined to do a kind of “ day in the life of” theme. I wanted to do a sketch of what was beautiful around me everyday, no matter my location. So obviously, this day was spent at work. Calibrating monitors. But there was just something beautiful about the designs of these monitors, and I had to add them to my sketchbook. So I managed to fill it up in time, mailed it off, and it should be added to the physical library and the online library shortly! So cool to be part of something so wonderful!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Digging through my archives and finding this picture taken in Florence, Italy. It was wonderful just being able to wander around a beautiful city, sit down somewhere, and draw. And the detail and workmanship in all of their buildings is amazing. I could spend a lifetime in a city like that and not see everything.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whew! Winter can be tough but I guess its all in how you dress. Met up with some Urban Sketchers/Plein Air painters for a little cold weather painting. I’m still working on pushing my values so any chance to get out and paint is time well spent.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - It's been awhile!</image:title>
<image:caption>Because I’ve been in Tuscany!!!! Just returned from 2 weeks in Italy. The first week just wandering and doodling in Florence. The second week was spent taking a painting class further out into Tuscany. And it’s amazing. I’ve never seen so many different greens in my entire life. (Olive trees are so blue green they’re almost silver! Crazy!!) There is so much beauty in this world…if you have the chance to go see it, DO IT!</image:caption>

<image:title>Visual Blog - Doodle of Byrd Park in Snow Hill</image:title>
<image:caption>So while in Snow Hill for their Plein Air event, I took some down time to just sit and draw. I’m really enjoying the panoramic sketchbook. It really is relaxing to just sit and draw whats in front of you. Some people do yoga or meditate. I just plop down and pull out a pen and sketchbook. Instant happy place.</image:caption>

<image:caption>So I participated in my first plein air event ever and it was quite the learning process! Spent the week on the eastern shore and had 3 days to paint around the town of Snow Hill and then on Saturday and Sunday, hung our works for sale. 70 artists participated and it was amazing. It was really cool to see everyone’s interpretation of the area. It was a little stressful but really fun to be able to just paint for a week.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Pen Show in Baltimore</image:title>
<image:caption>Joined the Baltimore, Maryland chapter of the Urban Sketchers awhile ago and have met some amazing artists! And they're a pretty fun group as well! A pen show was in town this weekend and I thought I'd check it out. I've always used disposable pens for my artwork, so I thought it would be nice to try and be more earth friendly and try out some refillable pens. I went home with a couple fountain pens I can't wait to use. I'll let you know how it goes!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Logo assist!</image:title>
<image:caption>Was asked to assist in creating a logo for a new boutique (if you're near Callahan, Florida, you can see this in real life!) It was a 2 day quick rush job but I think it turned out pretty good. And they obviously managed to make a massive store front sign out of it! Very cool!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Cold winter months....</image:title>
<image:caption>....means drawing inside!!!! Decided to take the show on the road and head to the Natural History Museum in Washington DC. Obviously they have a lot of really cool exhibits and all the animals are great at holding very still for their portraits to be done. Like the opossum here just hanging out. Received a new white gelly roll pen in the mail and thought it would work great on black paper. I wasn't disappointed!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Art on the Avenue</image:title>
<image:caption>Participated in Art on the Avenue this past weekend in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia. Such a great turn out every year and this year didn't disappoint. A lot of great artists and buyers. Always a good combination. It's a one day show so it certainly makes for a long day for the artists, but I can't say enough good things about the whole event. I highly recommend it to both artists and art lovers alike!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Its been awhile since I've done some plein air oil painting and this seemed like the perfect time. I have to say, I am absolutely loving the colored backgrounds to start on. Just a bit of red peeking through makes all the difference. Look for my final piece under oil paintings!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Started doing art shows</image:title>
<image:caption>I finally took the plunge and started attending outdoor art shows. Its alot of work for set up, but really fun and worth it. Meet lots of great people and get to show my work in new places.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visual Blog - Finally bought a computer!</image:title>
<image:caption>Well, it was inevitable....I purchased my first computer. whew. I don't understand a lot about it but just been playing around. Took this picture of the screen...on the left is the photo of my painting I took. Has a real green feel to it. So I (somehow) managed to transfer it to the computer, crop it, and play around with it enough to get the colors close to right. Crazy. Never thought I'd see the day where I'd figure this out. Next step......prints.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Inspired by my friends dog, I did this portrait as a donated piece to a local art group. Apparently out of 150 small squares donated, they chose 6 to frame and raffle off. And pretty Pickles is one! Such an honor!</image:caption>

<image:title>Visual Blog - So if another artist helps you with a painting, do you have to give them credit?</image:title>
<image:caption>And by artist, I mean cat. And by help, I mean walk across. Did this fun painting of jellyfish and left it on the table to dry. Lo and behold, a 4 legged furball decided this was a great place to wander about. Look for the one lonesome paw print surrounded by floating jellyfish. Thanks for the assist, kitty.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I've been dabbling a lot in pet portraits lately. Its fun and challenging to try and capture their personalities. I've also come to find there are many people who do this sort of thing with such a variety of styles. I've been digging through Instagram looking at all the different ways people capture animals.</image:caption>
